Details about internship at TCS-TRDDC - I was a student intern at the Tata Research Development and Design Centre (TRDDC) - a division of Tata Consultancy Services Limited. The lab was setup in 1981 in Pune India. It is one of the oldest research lab working in Computer Science in India. In TRDDC, I was guided by Mr. Girish Palshikar, Senior Scientist. His research interests are in theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Under the guidance of Mr. Palshikar, I was involved in the study of Inductive Logic Programming. The project involved the study & implementation of two approaches to ILP - an empirical top down approach used in the FOIL algorithm, and a bottom up interactive algorithm described in the Cohen's algorithm. Some of the important milestones of the project were as follows : 1. Study of Mathematical foundations of logic from the book by Reeves[1] 2. Study of Prolog - Programming in Prolog by Clocksin & Mellish[2]. 3. Study of FOIL algorithm from Quinlan's papers [3],[4],[5] & Mitchell's book on Machine Learning[6]. 4. Presentation in TRDDC on FOIL algorithm. 5. Prototype of FOIL algorithm. 6. Study of Cohen's algorithm as described in Cohen[7] 7. Presentation of Cohen's algorithm at TRDDC. 8. Participation in the machine learning course at Pune University. 9. Presentation on ILP techniques at the machine learning course. 10. Implementation of FOIL & Cohen's algorithm & integration into the TCS toolkit. 11. Testing of implementation on different datasets. 12. Preparation of report & documentation for the TCS toolkit.
